Unchangeable

Mt. Everest
“Forever, O LORD, your word is firmly fixed in the heavens.”
-Psalm 119:89 ESV

If there is a symbol of forever on this planet, it would have to be the image of Mt. Everest rising majestically over all other lesser peaks around the world. This massive massif is the epitome of solidity and unchangeableness, yet it is as susceptible to erosion as any other surface on the planet. Something I saw earlier today said that while Mount Everest is now 8850 meters (29,035 feet) tall, it is has lost 6 feet to the effects of erosion since 1999. Think of that; this behemoth being slowly reduced, a process that will continue throughout time as weathering affects the rocks, very slowly to be sure, but the insidious changes continue all the same.
So, is there anything that is fixed or certain in this world? Only one thing has and will remain; the Word that God has spoken to mankind and that is recorded for us in the pages of the Bible. Wind will wear down Mount Everest until, given enough time, it is a barren plain between what was once China and Nepal. Wind and rain with the minute wearing away that occurs will reduce any crag to pebbles and sand, but the Word is fixed and immutable forever.
